Yate Play & Recreation Areas

Howard Lewis Play Area, Yate

Yate Town Council continues to give children’s play areas a high priority and in recent years has increased the number of facilities within the town.  In early 2004, the Witches Hat Play Area on Westerleigh Road was refurbished with new equipment and access routes were improved.  Some of the equipment caters for wheelchair users.

In addition, a kickabout/basketball area is located adjacent to the play equipment.

Enhancing Play Areas across Yate

In light of the success of the Witches Hat Play Area refurbishment, the Town Council undertook a project in 2005 to revamp and enhance the St Mary’s Play Area.  In 2006, we enhanced Millside Playzone. Following consultation with the users of the Playzone, we installed some new spikas (twirly sticks), a football goal and an aerial runway.  The Kingsgate Park Play area has also been upgraded and houses state of the art equipment for children up to 12 years of age.

Play equipment is also sited at:

  • Eggshill Lane
  • Howard Lewis Park
  • St Mary’s Field
  • Tyndale Park
  • Yate West Kickabout
  • Brinsham Fields & Lake ( both senior and junior)
  • Longs Drive
  • Halifax Road Kickabout
  • Lye Field Kickabout

If you would like more information on these places then you can visit the Play Areas in Yate page in the main Yate section of this website.

All Town Council play areas are revamped and enhanced on a rolling programme.

Regular Safety Surveys

Yate Town Council has regular independent safety surveys of all play equipment, in order to maintain a high standard of service provision.
