Update 14 December 2010
Following a competition held with young people, a name for the Youth Venue and Cafe has been chosen - Armadillo was the winning name, which reflects the shape of the building. The winner wins free entry to all Armadillo events for one year and an opportunity to attend the celebrity opening to be held next year. Thank you to everyone who took part.

A competition has been launched to name the Youth Cafe. The winner will receive free entry to all Youth Cafe events for the first year and an invitation to the celeb opening. Closing date for entries is the end of October. Download the Name the Youth Cafe Competition Entry Form and submit your entry.

A launch took place on 20 July 2010, where interested users and businesses were invited to receive a Youth Venue and Cafe Launch presentation and take away a copy of the new glossy Youth Venue and Cafe Business Plan.

Work has started on site! The hoardings are up and the diggers have started work.

Update June 2010
The contractors for the Yate Youth Venue & Café have now been chosen and work is due to start work on site at the end of June 2010. The building is scheduled to open in April 2011.
With work on site imminent, much time and thought has been given to ensuring that the impact on the local community is carefully managed to avoid any unnecessary upset or confusion.
The chosen contractor, has a great deal of experience of working on building sites in busy town centre locations and has demonstrated clear plans for keeping any disruption to a minimum, the key to which is communicating with the local community all the way through the building process.
The Project Board has also deliberated over the impact of the building process on the immediate environment. There are a number of mature trees on the site which are to be protected, and, as part of the interview process the contractor had to set out exactly how they would do this. Again, the chosen contractor was able to demonstrate a wealth of knowledge and practical experience in this area, which satisfied the Project Board’s concerns.
