Winner of Yate Ageing Better Logo Competition

Free Armadillo Cinema Session for the Winner of the Yate Ageing Better Logo Competition

Yate Ageing Better logo winner Lola Beal

The winning entry of the Yate Ageing Better (YAB) logo competition has been announced by Yate Town Council.
Following a consultation on ‘Yate Ageing Better’ commissioned by the Town Council, a competition was launched to create a logo to identify the ongoing YAB project.

The objectives of the YAB project are to work with the local community in continuing to establish Yate as a great place for us all to live, so that lives continue to be happy, fulfilled, active, energetic, positive and rewarding within the ageing population.

The winning logo design was sent in by Lola Beal, aged 9, who will receive the prize of a session in the cinema room with her friends and family at the Armadillo Youth Cafe (once reopened) worth over £85.

The design depicted the tree of life topped with interconnecting circles, reflected the objectives of the YAB project in bringing our community together as well as illustrating how life for all of us in an ageing community can be very fulfilling with many overlapping life experiences and activities.

"My mum told me about the competition, and I got to work on it straight away as I wanted to be a part of this community based competition and with lockdown in place I had plenty of time to think about what I wanted to do. I based my idea on the tree that had been recently sculpted as it shows that no matter how old you are there is still dreams and goals that can be achieved by looking at the positives and anything can be turned into something beautiful with help and support from others. As a community we always look out for each other." Lola Beal

Lola’s mother, Donna Ford, added "Oh wow I have just told her and she is so pleased, in fact she was jumping around her bedroom’"

Councillor John Gawn Chair of the YAB Committee commented:

All the designs were very good. We had some trouble choosing the one we felt best suited for the group.
The design of the tree chosen showed how we hope to grow ‘Yate Ageing Better’ going forward. The centre depicting the heart of the community, and the colours bringing brightness to people’s lives’

Due to Covid-19, the Town Council has cancelled events relating to the YAB project. As soon as it is safe to do so, the YAB project will be officially launched at the Armadillo in Yate. The event will bring together the local community, community groups and organisations that support the ageing community. The Town Council are also inviting residents to become Champions for YAB. The Champions would keep their ear to the ground and listen to problems and share information and ideas with people to find out the best way to be fulfilled and active and ‘Age Better’.
