Projects & Future Plans

The Future

Outlined below are some of the ideas and issues that will be developed by the Town Council in the near future:

  • £20,000 of lottery funding has been received to enhance the Millside play area and £35,000 to enhance the Longs Drive play area. Consultation on both schemes took place in March 2010. A second phase of consultation for the Millside scheme will be held late May/early June.
  • Sketch plans have been drawn up to provide a water feature in the grounds of Kingsgate Park.
  • Ideas for the enhancement of the Howard Lewis Play Area have been discussed and sketch drawings are currently being prepared by a Landscape Architect.
  • The Town Council will be publishing a new walk leaflet, linking commons, greens and play areas in Yate.
  • The Town Council has entered into negotiations with South Gloucestershire Council to assume responsibility for Brimsham Park and Fields, with effect from April 2011. A full public consultation will be carried out, so watch this space for dates coming soon.
  • ‘Peg Hill Users’ Group is being set up to discuss proposals to enhance and refurbish the arena/street course area.

Youth Cafe

Planning permission has been granted and work is now forging ahead for the Youth Café to be built on the side of Yate Leisure Centre.

The two storey Youth Cafe will be constructed of a timber frame, with hempcrete (a mixture of hemp fibres and lime) blown in to act as an insulator. The building will house a platform lift suitable for disabled users and measures will also be taken to reduce the environmental footprint of the building, including increasing the u-values of windows and frames, improving hempcrete walls and the provision of LED lighting.

Discussions are now taking place on the staffing structures, operational and management arrangements and an arts consultant has been commissioned to work with young people on their ideas for an art project.
