The Yate Community
The Yate community is very active with hundreds of organisations, clubs and voluntary groups in operation. There is a community groups page where you can find further information about local groups.
Yate Community Plan
Yate Community Plan is a visionary document reflecting the aspirations of the people of Yate for the future of the town over the next 20 years. Hundreds of people were involved in producing the Yate Community Plan which was launched in 2008.
Following the launch, over 30 members of the community signed up to the Community Plan Implementation Group which meets quarterly to progress the key actions contained within the plan.
Yate Safer and Stronger Community Group
The Yate Safer & Stronger Community Group meets quarterly to facilitate local people working together to promote pride in the community as a safe, thriving and pleasant place to live, work and play. Through partnership working, quality of life is improved for local people and initiatives are co-ordinated to reduce crime and disorder.
Twinning in Yate
Twinning with Bad Salzdetfurth
Twinning is alive and well in Yate with a very active Yate & District Twinning Association. Yate’s twin town of Bad Salzdetfurth is an attractive spa town with thermally heated swimming pools and many half timbered buildings surrounded by beautiful countryside. The town lies 30 miles south of Hannover which is twinned with Bristol. The twinning association between Yate and Bad Salzdetfurth celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2010.
Link with Genieri
Yate is also linked with Genieri, a village of about 700 people, almost 100 miles inland from the coast in the West African republic of The Gambia. The link between Yate and Genieri was established to forge friendships between the people of the two communities following a visit to The Gambia by a group of sixth formers from Brimsham Green School in 1986.
Yate has many active friends groups, including Friends of Kingsgate Park, Friends of Brimsham Park and Fields, Friends of the Ridge Woods, Friends of The Common, Friends of the River Frome and the Friends of Yate Station. Please contact the Town Council if you are interested in getting involved with any of the Friends Groups, or even setting up a group of your own.
Grants to Local Community Groups
Yate Town Council promotes an active community in Yate by awarding grants annually to non-profit making organisations. These organisations work for the benefit of Yate parishioners, with the intention of improving the range of services and activities in the town.
