Chipping Sodbury Cricket Club

Cricket for Yate, Chipping Sodbury and Bristol

Chipping Sodbury Cricket Club has been at the heart of Bristol cricket for many years and today provides the communities of Yate and Chipping Sodbury with a vast array of cricketing opportunity.

The cricket club is one of the largest in the Bristol area with 5 Saturday senior league sides, 2 Sunday league sides, a large youth section and a Women/Girls section which is part of Bristol Phoenix Womens Cricket Club. Many of the the cricket club's members live in Yate and the club is always looking for new members, players and supporters.

Where is their Cricket Ground?

This Bristol cricket club plays its matches at the Ridings in the town of Chipping Sodbury. The cricket club has two pitches at the Ridings which can be found by traveling from Chipping Sodbury High Street, past St John the Baptist Church, up Wickwar Road and it is on the right near Chipping Sodbury Tennis Club.

The Ridings is also home to Chipping Sodbury Rugby Club, Chipping Sodbury Football Club, St Nicholas Youth Football Club and the Hogweed Trotters Running Club. The Ridings is owned by Chipping Sodbury Town Trust.

Youth Cricket

The cricket club has grown dramatically since the club's youth section began in the 1970s. Today there is a lot of opportunity for the children of Yate, Chipping Sodbury and Bristol to try to follow in the footsteps of their cricketing heroes.

Understandably the number of youth teams the cricket club can run will fluctuate in any one year, however the cricket club does run at least one team (usually more) in each of the following age groups:

  • Under 9s
  • Under 11s
  • Under 13s
  • Under 15s
  • Under 17s

Senior Cricket

The club is one of only a few Bristol cricket clubs that provide both Saturday and Sunday senior cricket. The senior sides provide a natural progression into adult cricket for the many youth players who will take to the field every summer weekend. The club provides the following league teams that play at weekends:

  • Saturday 1st XI
  • Saturday 2nd XI
  • Saturday 3rd XI
  • Saturday 4th XI
  • Saturday 5th XI
  • Sunday 1st XI
  • Sunday 2nd XI

Women's Cricket

In recent years the cricket club has also been providing women and girls across Bristol with the opportunity to play cricket. Chipping Sodbury's women's section merged with the women sections of Thornbury Cricket Club and Shirehampton Cricket to form the Bristol Pheonix Cricket Club, which is Bristol's premier cricket club for Women's Cricket.
