Yate & District Townswomens Guild

"Townwomen" is a national organisation, with local Guilds offering a common meeting ground to women for fun, friendship, education and the opportunity to have their voices heard. The Guilds are for women, regardless of their race, age, politics, religion or circumstances.

When & where do they meet?

Yate and District have two Townswomen's Guilds. One, the Morning Guild, meets at 9.45am in Chipping Sodbury Town Hall, every second Wednesday of the month (except August), and the Evening Guild meets every third Tuesday of the month.

What do they do?

Each Guild has its own committee, which organises the regular monthly meetings and books speakers, demonstrations and other activities, often by the members themselves, for these meetings.

Morning and Evening Guilds

Each Guild also has smaller groups for specific interests. The Morning Guild has groups for craft, singing for fun, walking, play reading and social studies. These groups usually meet monthly. The Evening Guild is smaller and most of the members work, so their activities are planned on a one-off basis. These include an annual barbeque, car treasure hunt, social evenings, poetry and literary evenings, quizzes and craft demonstrations. Members' families also enjoy many of these activities.

Guild Outings and Events

Outings are very popular, organised by both the Guilds and by the Bristol North West Federation of Townswomen's Guilds, of which both Guilds are members.

Regional and national events are organised by the Townswomen Headquarters, with a National Council Meeting every year at different locations. In 2004, we were in Bournemouth, with Bob Geldof as one of the speakers.

Both local groups are active, friendly organisations and welcome new members.
