Yate Ageing Better

Yate Ageing Better is an initiative set up by Yate Town Council to encourage 50+ to lead an active, healthy and happy lifestyle. Working with local groups, we want to inspire and empower locals to have a voice within the community. The Yate Ageing Better project will enable us to continually review and monitor local provisions of older people’s activities, to ensure we are supporting local people to age in a way that is empowering, respectful and most importantly, meeting needs.

Events

Yate Ageing Better

Yate Ageing Better Festival is an annual event, which takes place in Yate Shopping Centre in July, where we celebrate ageing better!

The event hosts a range of community groups offering social activities and volunteering in sport, music, health, arts, culture, heritage, DIY and much more! There is a vibrant programme of demonstrations and performances, alongside games, free classes and festival favourites, plus cream teas and ploughman’s lunches at the Pop Inn Cafe!

If you’re thinking of making new friends, learning a new skill or hobby or maybe rekindling old favourites, come along to find out what Yate and the surrounding areas have to offer for people approaching and already enjoying their retirement.

Yate Ageing Better Consultation

In September 2019, Yate Town Council commissioned a public consultation about ‘Yate Ageing Better’ to help improve the quality of life for older people living in Yate. You can read the ‘Yate Ageing Better’ consultation report by clicking here.

Activities

Pop Inn and Memory Cafe

Pop Inn Cafe

Open weekly on:
Monday – Thursday from 10.00am – 2.30pm
Friday from 11am – 1.30pm*
*(11am-1pm on the first and third Friday of the month for the memory cafe)

In Yate Shopping Centre nestled between the library and the One Stop Shop, you will find the Pop Inn Café – a unique café specifically for customers and volunteers aged 50 years+ that is leading Yate Town Council’s mission to help us all age better.

At the Pop Inn Cafe, customers enjoy bargain brews, social lunches, music, alfresco cream teas and opportunities to make new friends. It is home to a popular Memory Café, that provides a listening ear and free activities for people with memory loss, and their carers. The volunteers at the café serve up some of the sweetest treats in town, while making important community connections and decisions about the café, that bring enjoyment to the over 50s community.

The Memory Cafe welcomes those with dementia and their carers. Open the first and third Friday of the month*, from 1.30pm to 3pm, with refreshments, activities and friendly company.

But this café, sometimes a hidden gem, has so much more to offer! They want to know, after more than 22 years of service – what do you think about the Pop Inn Café, and what would you like it to provide for the over 50s community, to help us live and age better?
